Bristol has two driving test centres, Kingswood and Avonmouth. The driving test routes for the Bristol test centres are generally kept under wraps as for obvious reasons, the examiners wouldn't want you just practicing driving test routes. But we have recorded a good few of these driving test routes in Bristol to help you prepare for any awkward or tricky bits! Check them put at the very bottom of this page.
Kingswood is set in East Bristol, which is located near to Warmley. Kingswood driving test centre has a multitude of difficult roads, these can include dual carriageways, double mini roundabout and lots of narrow residential roads.
To succeed and pass your driving test you will need to be able to navigate your way confidently around the Kingswood driving test routes and be ready for anything unexpected!
Set within North West of Bristol, Avonmouth is near a large busy industrial estate near the M5. There are large spiral roundabouts traffic light and county lanes to test your skills.
If you live slightly further out from Bristol then you might need to take your driving test in a place called Trowbridge. Trowbridge is in Wiltshire. Trowbridge is less busy than Bristol and poses generally less of a challenge than Kingswood driving test centre!
Some of the Trowbridge driving test routes include a roundabout call the Longfield roundabout, this roundabout is a multi-lane gyratory type roundabout with a building in the middle. Its really important you understand this roundabout before you take your driving test.
Familiarize Yourself with Bristol's Roads: Spend time driving in Bristol to become familiar with the local roads, traffic conditions, and typical routes used during driving tests.
Practice Different Types of Roads: Practice driving on a variety of road types, including residential streets, dual carriageways, roundabouts, and busy city centre roads.
Learn Common Test Routes: While specific test routes are not publicly available, you can ask your driving instructor if they are aware of any commonly used routes or areas that are frequently included in driving tests.
Master Key Skills: Focus on mastering key driving skills such as parallel parking, bay parking, and manoeuvring safely through traffic.
Understand Road Signs and Markings: Make sure you understand and can correctly interpret road signs, markings, and traffic signals commonly found in Bristol.
Stay Calm and Confident: On the day of your test, try to stay calm and confident. Remember to follow the instructions of the examiner and demonstrate safe and responsible driving habits throughout the test.
Practice Hazard Perception: Practice identifying potential hazards while driving and develop your hazard perception skills, as this is an essential aspect of the driving test.
Take Mock Tests: Consider taking mock driving tests with your instructor to simulate the test experience and identify areas where you may need to improve.
